Back on the pier at Clevedon again.

Can you see some plaques on the board under this chap's feet ?
The canny fundraisers when the pier was being rebuilt sold brass plaques at £5 each to raise mony for the work effort. It makes for a most attractive feature of the pier.
The benches also have plaques, see one either side of Smiler.
No wonder our hotel The Highcliffe has such a fab view (see previous entry) It has a commanding position overlooking the Severn Estuary. Perfect for watching the tide come in and out twice a day. Watching the water level rise as the tide went out as we were on the pier confirms the fact that you couldn't swim against this tide here. It is the second highest tide in the World. However they managed to build this pier in the first place is beyond me.
