These are some of the pictures that I took at www.theplaypark.co.uk for my pal Miriam Guard who has worked so hard to make this park for all abilities work. Sadly the local yobs have vandalised what can only be described as a haven for many. http://www.thisisexeter.co.uk/news/Exeter-vandals-target-new-playground/article-1189207-detail/article.html#StartComments
I run the website for the Playpark as a gift to Miriam who has worked tirelessly to get this wonderful play space up and running.
The trouble is that children today, and they are children have nothing to occupy themselves with. As a child we went around in the local gang but the older kids looked after the younger kids and because we didn't have much, we respected what we did have.
If only these louts could be made to spend a day with some of the more disadvantaged children, then their natural compassion would come to the fore, and they wouldn't help but feel that they would like to help. But with today's Uk nanny state who is going to challenge these children and ask them to give some of their time in return?
They have got the upper hand, but it is not doing them any good. In the old days, if a youth was messing about, the local bobby would take him aside and have a word. I can remember my brother being marched to our front door by the local policeman, and telling my parents what he had been up to. My Dad made my brother apologise, and when the bobby left us, my Dad gave my brother a damn good wallop. And when my Dad had finished with him, my Mum didn't molly coddle him, she told him that she was ashamed of him, and if she caught him misbehaving again, then she would give him what for too. It never happened again, because my brother knew his limits. When my children were little I smacked them if they misbehaved. Not often of course, because the threat of a smack was enough. They tell me these days that they never thought I was anything but fair, and that they never felt threatened at any time. What poor parents these thugs who have done damage to the playpark have, that they have not taught their children right from wrong, and the precious gift of caring for others. What a sad state of affairs we are in. I pity Miriam having to deal with this mindless aggression, but this is the society we have built for ourselves.

Swine Flu - no joke...

Hi folks, anyone missed me ?

The last 3 weeks have been taken up with the dreaded swine flu.
We both got it, me slightly worse than Rob what with my asthma....

Wouldn't you know .. just when I was swamped with work too. We had booked a space for a stand at Chagford Show but a week beforehand we realised that there was no way we would have the energy to order canvasses and organise ourselves, so we postponed the stand until next year.

But we did go to Chagford show as usual... Each year I enjoy judging the photographic part of the horticultural show. There was a good turnout again this year, and if you log on to http://www.chagfordshow.com/ you will find a link to over 400 photos that Rob and I took on the day.

Neither of us is fully up to strength again yet, but hopefully we can get back into our stride this week.

New baby Gulliver.

Apologies once again for tardy attendance. We are trying hard to convert our site into Dreamweaver from Front Page, and the going has been decidely heavy !
It's all a new learning curve for me, and I am finding it difficult after 10 years of using the old software.
Not only our own website, but all the websites of our clients have had to be rebuilt, and I hate being in the office for days on end.
Added to which, Martin, our new techy chap came back from his holiday with a cough, which I got, then Rob got a cold and lo.... I got that too. Whilst coughing, I put my back out, and had to spend 3 days in bed, and this when we had friends from Stafford staying for a few days...

BUT we can see the light at the end of the tunnel now and we hope to launch www.dartmooraccommodation.co.uk in it's new livery tomorrow IF ALL GOES WELL. I say this because there have been several days recently when we thought we were almost there only to find that whoops we had forgotten to add the odd page such as the application form for the horticultural classes in Chagford Show, or the food review from some eatery that we visited in March 2008.
So, keep your fingers crossed for us... hopefully by this time tomorrow, we can breathe a sigh of relief. Watch this space.
In the mean time I give you something to smile at. Young Gulliver, the new baby for Shona and Matthew the hosts at The Sandy Park Inn, our neighbours. Shona brought Gulliver along for me to point the camera at last week, and a very handsome baby he is too.

It's Chagford Show in a fortnight's time, and I haven't made the scarecrow yet... or the jam, or this and that and oh dear there is masses still to be done....

And now it's gone midnight.... hey ho !
Back again soon.
Cheers chaps
Jill
